Great find! I was just thinking about putting together something similar in plain text.

      @gerryatric

If the instructions in that link don't work, it's very likely iiNet limit the number of IP addresses they will give out, probably based on MAC address. I'm also surprised that you were able to connect the USG and Edgerouter to the NBN through the switch and get two public IPs.

@biggsy IINET do not limit the number of IP addresses either by count or by mac address. I have had multiple routers on this connection. NBN modems, USG 3 router, USG 4 pro router, Edgerouter X SFP, and none of them have ever had an issue.
at the same time and also singularly.
As mentioned previously, I disconnected all the routers and used the PFSENSE box by itself and had the exact same result.

I will try the link provided by Jorgek and see if that helps.
although remembering right at the start of this exercise it was connecting fine and lasting for a minute or 2. now it won't even connect.

        back soon with results.

            Hi Jorgek
So right away that guide differs on PFSENSe.
There does not seem to be an interfaces/switches area at all unless it is so obvious I can't see it.
maybe a different version of pfsense?
I get to vlans by interfaces/interface assignments and then on that menu I get to create a vlan interface which is the second part of that step. but the first part I can not locate

Are you using the default modem will be the first question

you are right! here in Austria it would be the same as down under :)
Still it might be worth to try to get help from them.
Maybe there is a "user forum" from your provider?

Yes, the Unit in that Link is a SG-1100/SG-3100 and it uses pfsense+ and different net-interface names, but the principle of connection is the same as in pfsenseCE!

                    Not a different pfSense version.
It's as that web page explains : The "Switches" part is for the 3100.
The "Netgate 3100" uses, like most ISP router, a single hardware NIC but has multiple switched ports, so it can behave like a switch (example : all ports are LAN) or, with the help of VLANs, you can create LAN+OPT1+OPT2+OP = 4 individual networks.
If you don't have a Netgate 3100 like device, just skip that part.

No "help me" PM's please. Use the forum, the community will thank you.
Edit : and where are the logs ??

Sorry, missed the part about trying pfSense by itself.

@gertjan all good. now that I have cleared up that I don't have a 3100 router,
Back onto the job. lets see if I can get this silly thing to work now.
Thanks so much for all the info guys. very helpful.
It is just odd, it doesn't just work. like the USG
                        oh well

                        I will advise shortly

I agree, that's surprising. But if it works....

ok so followed the guide for NBN on IINEt. which I might add is exactly how we had it connected.
Sadly to say, seems like same issue

No special parameter at all apart from Vlan ID
This just makes no sense as it works on all my other routers.

Something IPv6 causing a delay that time's out something else?

Your WAN is still set for DHCPv6 which normally rides over the PPPoE once it's connected and isn't an issue but.....

Check the ppp logs in the ER or any other router that does connect. Make sure there isn't something fundamentally different happening. Like the wrong auth type maybe.

Don't you need to provide your full username (username@iinet.net.au) for PPPoE?

I only see the left-hand side "davidj*********" in the log.

No. the difference between IINET NBN and IINET fibre. you do need full username for NBN VDSL but not for NBN fibre.
                                        IINET is owned by TPG

The fibre is owned by NBN too. Should be no difference.

                                          Give it a try.

I did that already. it doesn't work. I had this discussion with tech support and their advice when it wasn't connecting on the USG was to remove the rest of the address. since then it has been good.
I tried the full address on PFSENSE and it doesn't work
This is not a username or password issue. I have been through all this way at the top of this forum subject a few times.
The issue seems to be that PFSENSE needs to send something that the USG does automatically.
                                            hence the failure
Or the PFSENSe is sending something that the IINET Fibre doesn't want.
I can't see that clearly in the logs.
