ZFS on QOTOM type Boxes
-
I use ZFS on mine.
-
@jknott Thanks.

No problems on:
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-5250U CPU @ 1.60GHz
4 CPUs: 1 package(s) x 2 core(s) x 2 hardware threads
AES-NI CPU Crypto: Yes (active)
QAT Crypto: No -
@hypnosis4u2nv
No problems here too.Been running ZFS since 2.4.5 , on a SSD
-
Curious, are any of you running it as a single disk also?
I've tried several installs and it just feels sluggish on ZFS and unusable once it's configured with packages. I've noticed the HD light steady when it would be in this state. Pain to even access logs to see what's going on.
-
@hypnosis4u2nv I am using a single-SSD ZFS installation of 2.6.0 on a Qotom box with no problems. You could try checking your disk(s) for errors, and running a memory/CPU test.

I run pfSense on the single SSD in my Qotom computer.

As you can see in my signature - running on a single SSD Disk with ZFS.

A box with those specs should have no problems. Something else is affecting it. Check the logs. Check the system activity (top output).

@bpsdtzpw Ran the tests and everything passed. I even tried UEFI and BIOS ZFS methods and still did the same thing.
-
@stephenw10 The problem with looking at the activity is that the system hangs and I can't see anything. I may be able to try and get the logs and post them here to see what may be causing it. Problem is I need to find my Edgerouter and use that while I play with pfSense.

I have a Qotom Q330G4 with
- Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-4005U CPU @ 1.70GHz
4 CPUs: 1 package(s) x 2 core(s) x 2 hardware threads
AES-NI CPU Crypto: Yes (active)
QAT Crypto: No - 8GB RAM
- Single 30GB Intel Series 525 SSD (mSATA)
Been using ZFS, when it came available in pfSense 2.4.x(?) and upgrades up to 2.5.2
Fresh install of 2.6.0 using ZFS and upgraded that to pfSense Plus 22.01 and now running 22.05.No problems with my setup.
- Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-4005U CPU @ 1.70GHz

If I give this a go again, what logs should I try to get for review?
-
Mostly the main system log. If it's some sort of drive issue where it's unable to write out the logs when it fails that will only be shown on the console.
The monitoring graphs may show something leading up to it if it's some resource exhaustion.Steve

@stephenw10 Thanks, Ill give this another go and post the logs.
