For Sale post deleted without warning and other Netgate support failures

@rcoleman-netgate deleted a post I had listing my SG-3100 for sale without explanation or notification. I also can't chat with them directly because they do not "follow" me on these forums. What is wrong with posting used Netgate products "for sale" in these forums? If it's against some policy, at the very minimum @rcoleman-netgate could have pointed that out explicitly rather than quietly removing the post with zero notice. I have noticed other posts in the past that listed Netgate products (even other vendors) for sale, so I didn't see a problem.
I elected to sell my SG-3100 because it couldn't support 2.5GbE speeds, but I further decided to never do business again with Netgate because of:
-
their insistence of making customers take financial risks on their performance claims (see this old thread).
-
and their refusal to adequately support bringing multi-gig WANs into their new SG-6100 without the addition of either unsupported transceivers (unsupported because of bugs in the hardware that they use in the SFP ports) or very expensive 3rd party switches. They refused to even test some transceivers with which some users have had success. If anyone wishes to see my entire thread with Blaine Housson in Netgate sales over this, feel free to reach out.
I just can't do business with a company that refuses to stand behind its products -- and I gave them every opportunity to do so. With great agony, I jumped on the UDM bandwagon. That has its own set of shortcomings and issues to be sure -- but at least the support is responsive and they stand behind their product. And even their top-end home consumer model, the UDM-SE, is far cheaper and more capable than the SG-6100. No, I do NOT work for Ubiquiti -- and I would have far preferred to stay in the Netgate line of products. But their attitude and support just made it impossible. Caveat emptor.
Enjoy this post while it lasts -- I'm sure it will be removed in short order. If you don't like or disagree with this post, that's your prerogative -- but any flames, etc. will be ignored. I will only respond to those who would like to see the thread with Netgate Sales.

Actually that was me. We set the Vendors sub forum to be hidden as it saw very little activity beyond spam. I moved your post back to this sub.

Who are you trying to chat with? Someone doesn't have to follow you to be able to start a chat with them afaik. That would be a odd restriction. The only restriction I know of is signature needing at least 5 rep points, you have 16.

@stephenw10 I appreciate that clarification. The device has now been sold -- but the system wouldn't allow me to delete the post.

@johnpoz As I stated above, I was tying to chat with @rcoleman-netgate. See attached screenshots.

Ah, that looks like a user specific setting. I imagine Ryan was being bombarded by chats at some point and disabled it.

@bldnightowl yup that is a user defined restriction..
See I do not have that set, start a chat with me for a test if you want.
edit: I could understand why he might set that though, I want to set it myself some times ;) you would be surprised how many people can hit you up wanting personalized support.. Even with a signature asking not to chat me for help unless mod related.

Heh. Like anyone actually reads a signature.

@bldnightowl Hi. I'm back from holiday now.
I moved your post, as @stephenw10 noted, into a space that was apparently dead and for that I apologize. I did not realize that was the case.
I have my DMs shut off so that it is not some place I have to monitor (in addition to Reddit posts, general forum posts, and my full-time duties in TAC). It's intended to keep me from being swamped with private requests for assistance, and mod-related things can be raised in many different environments rather than specifically as a DM to someone.

Not your fault, it wasn't hidden when you moved it. That was all on me.
