Referring back to an old thread of mine, what is the preferred method for reloading a Netgate appliance with CE instead of the Plus? Just use the Netgate ADI downloader and write to a flash drive (Rufus or Ether) or do I use the AMD64 and USB-memstick option?

Not on an SG-1100. The specially developed ARM image for that has only ever been available as factory/Plus.

What is it you're needing to do?
You can reinstall pfSense Plus to the 1100 if you need to. Just open a ticket with us to get the image:

@stephenw10 we have a mixture of virtual appliances also running on VMware using the CE edition. We don't use/need at the Plus features and would rather have everything running the same edition/version.

There have never been CE images for any ARM platform and there are no plans to do so. Nothing has changed there.
However you could upgrade your VMs to Plus if you want them to all be running the same version. There's no issue with running a mix of CE and Plus installs though.
It could be argued that the differences between ARM and x86 are larger than those between Plus and CE so it may not make much difference in that respect.
