A break from the posts of what did not work, this post is for anybody with a PC Engines APU2 holding off the upgrade, my upgrade went fine.

      Hardware details:

      PC Engines APU2
      BIOS v4.16.0.4

Started the upgrade at about 6pm, everything up and going by 7pm, I did need one extra reboot, before installing I disabled but did not uninstall PFBlocker and Snort, and of course. did a backup

              Me too!

APU4D4 here, with modem, WLAN and GPS card.
All is running fine after one extra upgrade (console)
and a second reboot. Now all is fine running and
also the packets are up to date.

@jasonau Could I ask what site you downloaded the Coreboot firmware from?

I tried https://pcengines.github.io/ but all the links are no longer working.

                    Thanks.

                      @blinky

I am sorry I don´t know, because the links are not
working, and I don´t know if this will be for a while
or forever. I only own the "apu4_v4.19.0.1.zip" with
ROM file, Signature and Hash inside, I was loading
it up here, so if you are using APU4 (only) you may
take it. If you use it, please don`t forget to do a cold
boot with un powering the APU after the upgrade
that not the old one (BIOS) will be in usage again.

                      apu4_v4.19.0.1.zip

You may use it on your own risk, I am using it since
the release day, without any issues, because I want to
install next month the TPM 2.0 module too, in my APU4.

and I only got informations that this will not working anymore and three "lines" for the /boot.loader.conf(.local).
