    Intel I226-V: Good or bad?

      If you get 1 GBit/s as the internet connection from your ISP
      not seldom is a ONT or fibre modem also present and this
      devices came in the last time sorted with 2.5 GBit/s ports.

      So if you are in that or a similar case you may be good
      sorted with an 2.5 GBit/s port to have no bottleneck.

                  We use that NIC in the 8200 and it works fine. Passes 2.5Gbps no problem. 1Gbps is, as you'd expect, no problem. Given a CPU that can handle it of course.

                    Now, its clear I have to use the DEV pfSense 2.7 build but besides that, is the card good for 1Gbps up/down?

                    1 GBit/s on WAN or LAN was not clear for me to find out
                    here at this point. So please sorry I was imagine you were
                    talking about the WAN speed.

                      The one thing I will point out is that igc does not support fix line speed/duplex. It can only link to a device configured to autonegotiate. Though you can set what link speeds it will negotiate to.
                      That shouldn't be a problem since Gigabit requires auto-negotiation as part of the spec.
                      If you have some ancient device with a 10M fixed port it's going to have a hard time.

                        Well, in a general sense, hardware wise or virtual wise, there will always be a switch so....I dont think there will be ANY scenario where a hardware pfSense with a Intel I226-V NIC will be directly connected to a ancient device with a 10M NIC
