and when I console in using Putty, I get Gibberish out of it
What settings are you using? What exactly do you see?
Does the PWR LED turn green?

Hi Steve,
Thank you very much for the reply.
There isn't anything crazy set on it, just DHCP and PFBlockerNG.
The PWR LED does turn green.
Thanks,
Patrick

I was thinking of doing the same thing, however, I cannot access the system to do that. I learned the Reset button on the front just cycles the CPU though and doesn't reset the configuration.

What settings are you using in putty though? What do you actually see?

I was using the default 9600 speed, I just adjusted it to 115200 and was able to connect to it via serial!
Thank you for pointing me in the direction of the Putty settings.
When I boot into it I keep seeing this error message: "pid 742 (php-cgi), uid 0; exited on signal 11 (core dumped) Segmentation fault (core dumped).
I assume I'll just have to wipe the config and start from scratch if that's any indicator that there is corruption going on.

I would reinstall 23.05.1 clean and restore your config now you have access to the serial console. It's almost certainly the quickest way to get back up and running.

Got it! Thank you very much, I will proceed with that right now!
Thanks again for all the help!

For next time... :)

Thank you for that link!! I will save that for next time!
I was just going to type you a message, When I hit option 4 in the console to factory reset the device I get random PID error messages and it returns me back to the console page.
Is there a manual console command to initiate a factory reset?

@pdowd0001 Resetting the configuration does not reinstall (a common misconception). It just restores a default config.xml file.
You can restore a config file from the console via option 15:
https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/backup/restore.html#console-configuration-history -
You can manually copy a default config in but that won't solve whatever php issue you have there. It only defaults the config.
I would still clean install the 23.05.1 firmware to be sure.
