23.09 release without TAC Lite?

They have a lifetime, like a year?
Exactly. If that 1 year happened to end between the 23.09-RC and release it would not be available but otherwise it will be.
Hi Steve,
It should be noted (with urgency) that those who have upgraded to, or already have an entitlement to pfSense+, do not have a start & end date promulgated through the dashboard widget:
In equal regard, the System / Register menu item does not display a start and end date and neither of these display items distinguish between Netgate appliances or those who have already registered:
Thank you for choosing Netgate pfSense Plus
Your device does not require registration, we recognize it already. You may have already registered, or it may be a pre-registered Netgate appliance.
The same goes for the customer invoice and the information displayed on the web portal. Yikes.
No doubt these discrepancies were not a priority when, in all cases, the upshot was a 'free' licence. But they matter now and it is likely that many users have little or no idea that there is an enforced end date or what that date actually is. It will be an appalling oversight if the lack of clarity by Netgate, combined with the recent policy changes, leaves users to their calendar-based fate.
I raised a support ticket on the portal a couple of days ago to try to establish what the dashboard should show and, specifically, what my own end date is. It is especially noticeable to me as a user both of a Netgate appliance and a bare-metal test unit that, with very different levels of support and licensing, both display exactly the same GUI messages, registration and support banners.
Craig responded in the early hours of this morning:
Hi Rob,
That is normal display for your current subscription. Our records show:
Device ID: 27xxxxxxxxxxxxxx86
Support start: 2023-10-13
Support end: 2024-10-12Thanks,
Craig C.
So the unclear display without dates is 'normal' and I have a support start and end date listed somewhere that is normally out-of-reach. Clearly I think the 'support' tag is in error, as I don't think I am entitled to it, but probably another example of the loose terminology applied to many strands of the product. Again, none of this really mattered before Netgate management opened-fire against itself but in today's less-permissive environment this is now unacceptable.
The vast majority of pfSense users are unlikely to know anything about the current issues or possible implications. Even if they do happen to frequent the forum and know anything about the recent changes the second-order issues remain unresolved. Indeed, even the web pages remain out-of-date.
I don't want to give you another cross to bear when you are in a situation that probably caught you by surprise but can you please raise internally a note that the current software, internal processes and documentation are not yet in place to justify cutting anyones existing pfSense+ subscription in the immediate future.
Hopefully with this request coming from a customer with no pressing issue with the demise of a pfSense+ licence it will be seen as a genuine 'attention getter' from an honest broker.
Regards, Rob

I probably should have created a new thread but here we are.

I bought TAC Lite support (the page where you enter NDI before adding it to cart) for my existing Home Plus installation and it was visible almost instantly on the Service&Support widget (shows Contract Type as TAC Lite and has start&end dates).
-
I know and it just shows the variance between pfSense+ via TAC-Lite and the other methods.

Just to be clear, in the screen shots attached by @RobbieTT that's the info for unpaid pfSense+ Home/Lab license(I see that exact info), and if you pay you also have a Start and an End date displayed in the widget ?
-
@RobbieTT Is that a Home & Lab Plus upgrade? Rather than $0 TAC-Lite?
-
@stephenw10
I clicked on the $0 TAC-Lite option and subsequently received an invoice for $0.00.The invoice itself shows a SKU and 'Home'. I was lead to the understanding that Home & Lab became separate SKUs at some point but I don't know if that is (or was) true.
I still had to install pfSense first and then install pfSense+. As you know, both of my devices have had numerous changes, test kernels, repartitioning et al so I guess it could have confused the mothership.
pfSense+ Software Subscription
Home (Non-commercial use)
SKU: PPNES-T0N-HM
$0.00 $0.00 1 $0.00️

Currently running 23.05.1 on third-party hardware. I purchased the $129 TAC Lite license on Oct 31 ($99.33 with discount). I received a different license SKU from RobbieTT.
The System>Register page shows the same "Your device does not require registration" message mentioned above. The Status>Dashboard Services And Support Widget does show an active license and the license period, however.
-
I'm guessing the @RobbieTT has the $0 TAC Lite that was available before this license change mess...

If you have a current H+L or tac-lite sub that enabled you to reach 23.09 beta/rc then you should see the release too.
That would only not be the case if your sub happened to expire before the release.
Steve
@stephenw10
Hi, you mean something like this?
This is my status on my pfsense box :(
-
Because of this mess caused by the sudden license change, I think it would be fair for Netgate to allow those that are currently on 23.09 Beta/RC to update to the Release version regardless of TAC status, as there's is currently no easy way to go from Plus to CE if you are above 23.05 version... Unless the config compatible version of CE is released around the same time as Plus 23.09.
-
@MoonKnight Send me your NDI in chat so I can check it.
You were able to reach 23.09-beta though even though it had already expired?

Hi,
I can upgrade if I want to:
But I'm not sure since my license has expired :) -
If you can see the upgrade to RC you will also see the release.
Try running at the command line:
pfSense-repoc
If that returns without error then you still have access to the pkg repos as expected.

Hi Steve,
No error when I run the command:
-
Looks good then.
-
I don't understand a little. If I received a pfsense plus home license, say, a month ago, will I still receive updates for another 11 months? I thought netgate would abruptly disable updates for all home users.
-
I can't answer that directly. I can say you will see the 23.09-REL update. I can update this when I know anything firmer.

From elsewhere:

It should not be. Existing subs should still function until they expire at least.
Also further updates may still happen here.
@stephenw10 said in Wan periodic reset causes system reboot.:
Clarification in:
No existing subs will not be cancelled before expiration.

Can we quote you on that - I mean I just clicked the quote button and everything?

That information came from the top. I cannot imagine what would have to happen to change that position.
I absolutely understand the implications here and in particular how it impacts dev/beta testers. Discussions are ongoing. Hopefully we will have options.
Steve
The above came from this thread. It may not answer everyone's questions but it should give you an idea how things have developed.

(edited) I can confirm I updated from 23.05.1 to 23.09 Release with a home lab free license. Thank you @stephenw10 and Netgate.
-
Yes you can.
