random mac and VPN Ip
-
@johnpoz you sound raciest. I'm calling space force.
-
Reasoning aside; most VPNs will give you a random IP address each time you connect. I'm sure you could do that with a one line cronjob.
-
@stephenw10 Interesting.. I did notice that I get a random IP when connection to the VPN.. But it seems that someone is targeting my modem ISP IP.. Someone keeps resetting my modem..
I know of others having the same issue if they post something online that is not allowable.. or they do it to interrupt Live streams on Youtube.. World new Report Today is one of them.I notice that Microsoft Edge can find your location regardless of having a VPN.. I have no idea how to run or build scripts for PFSense. My ISP is xfinity so I'm sure that they have pipeline taps all over the place.
-
Sounds like you're not actually routing all your traffic over the VPN.
-
@stephenw10 well I did build my system out of an old computer and a Nic card.. it sits before the modem. I think that I am.. you still have a public IP when connection to the ISP? Right? I never did a tracert.. I'm a novice at best.
-
Yes you still have a public IP that's required to access the VPN server. If it's configured correctly though the only traffic from the firewall should be the VPN traffic. That means only the ISP sees traffic from the your public IP. Anything external only sees the remote VPN IP.
-
@stephenw10 True but like I said,, Microsoft Edge browser can find a way around the VPN with out setting up a local town.. I've seen it happen.. It gives me the weather of my local town. I'm not sure how it works. It seems that brave browser can be hijacked to do the same thing.. IMO.. And once they have my IP to the ISP.. they can flood ping my Modem or send a command to reset it.. I've talked to xfinity about it and they said that it must be a connection problem but I know that it's not.

Your VPN provider likely has a leak-test page of some sort you should be able to check.

And is that just the VPN gateway address? No leaks?
-
@stephenw10 IT don't look like it.
What do the results of this test mean?
The servers identified above receive a request to resolve a domain name (e.g. www.eff.org) to an IP address everytime you enter a website address in your browser. The owners of the servers above have the ability to associate your personal IP address with the names of all the sites you connect to and store this data indefinitely. This does not mean that they do log or store it indefinitely but they may and you need to trust whatever their policy says. If you are connected to a VPN service and ANY of the servers listed above are not provided by the VPN service then you have a DNS leak and are choosing to trust the owners of the above servers with your private data.
Dnsleaktest.com is proudly brought to you by IVPN, an open-source, audited, no BS, no logs, VPN provider run by privacy advocates.

You should be good then. Seeing local news/weather results could just be cached location data.
