@JonathanLee sure its not have to do with your proxy - you running this connection through proxy? Maybe that part of the photo had hacker code in it ;) And your security prevented it from loading ;)

Do these photos load using something else other than your M1? Maybe they are just corrupted either on the disk, or during your transfer when your trying to view them.

I don't recall having such an issue since the days of dial up, where half a picture would download and then stop.. You know that large 100kbyte image took awhile over 9600 baud ;)

@johnpoz the proxy bypasses local connections only is used for internet. I thought the same thing I even replaced the NAS and it does it with the new one. Weird right I asked apple what is going on it only occurs when I use the M1 processor. This is a bad bug.

@NogBadTheBad 😆 I feel like it is done on purpose to help sell cloud service but that is an assumption. I mean really, maybe a port is blocked but why would it mess up the file on the NAS weird.

uses a M1 apple and has photos on external drives notice that photos are starting to have parts missing

              No issue here

occurs when you access time machine as a NAS all the sudden

only strange thing here is when I do this from a mac with dual monitors. Not specifically with photos, but time machine has issues rendering it own displays - unplug the second monitor and it is fine.

I actually use a NAS for Time Machine on multiple mac's but I much prefer CCC (Carbon Copy Cloner) much faster at getting files back if needed. But, I actually use both TM and CCC on all the Mac's here.

If that was the case it wouldn't load at all.. Are you accessing it with some photo or nas app, or just accessing the file with simple file share be it smb, nfs or what is apples AFP, use to be called appletalk I believe.. Didn't they drop support for the old appletalk - kind of how smb1 is no longer really a thing.

Is it directly loading into your app, what if you copy the file over using smb,nfs or afp and then load the file directly from storage on your machine?

Does it happen with any sized photo or format, be it jpeg or png or what avif is newer or webp or even what apple loves heic - I know my phone and ipad do.

@johnpoz I use the AP in bridge mode, I mean the devices connected to it can talk to each other without any firewall rules. Again only the iMac does this to the photos. It wouldn’t need rules right? Checked the drive with disk repair no issues scanned for viruses. Should the firewall also have rules? I mean if I lock the files the issues stop. Again it never occurs on iPhone or Windows machines when I access the files.

Files are on a NAS plugged into the AP usb port so really an external HDD using AirPort Extreme as a NAS manager. Works great except the new Apple software causes issues

@JonathanLee if your client you want to view pictures on is on the same network as the device your pictures are on - pfsense rules wouldn't have anything to do with that traffic.. Unless you were running through a bridge where your client was on one side and the server was on the other side.

You could have rules on the client and the server that block access - but if they didn't allow the traffic, then picture wouldn't load at all.

Not sure what this means, what does lock the files mean?

@johnpoz No it is only when I use the M1 the files get all messed up. It the files are locked with read only permissions it doesn't occur. I have no clue what is causing that for the M1 it's random and just weird. I complained to Apple discussion they said a lot of possibilities but no definite answer. It was some saying its Kaspersky, some saying its the older AP, some saying it is the VPN. I isolated it to the M1 so I know that it originates from it.
