intel i350-t4 always shows network connection down on pfsense 2.6 and higher
-
@stephenw10
ifconfig results in showing no carrier for status tried to assign interfaces again and link status is down, even tried running ifconfig igb0 up and its still not -
Hmm, so you competed the setup and run ifconfig and all the igb NICs show no carrier even though the port itself has active link LEDs?
-
@stephenw10 yes
-
@NaibElSayel You may want to check the Yottamark sticker on the card to rule out it being a fake.
-
@WN1X why would it start doing my problem after 2.6, wouldn't it have always done it if it were fake?
-
Newer drivers trying to read something from the card that it isn't reporting correctly for example.
-
I disabled the realtek onboard card, it works for a minute but I can't even get through the wizard on the gui before it stops working...
@WN1X @stephenw10 -
@NaibElSayel Did you check the card to see if it is a fake, as I suggested?
-

What works? The i350?
Is anything logged?
-
@WN1X it doesn't have a fancy sticker...bummer...but none of the ones I see online to buy like from amazon or ebay have them in the pictures...
-
@NaibElSayel Check for a BradyID. You can check here: https://verifyintel.bradyid.com
-
Mostly the "fake" cards are OK it seems. I've never tried one myself but there are many reports here on the forum.
-
@stephenw10 @WN1X ya it is definitely fake...where would I find a real one in canada?
-
Look for used OEM rebranded NICs: https://forums.servethehome.com/index.php?threads/list-of-nics-and-their-equivalent-oem-parts.20974/

is this a good one? -
@stephenw10 @NaibElSayel As Steve suggested, I have had very good luck purchasing used hardware from ServeTheHome.
-
I mean I would expect that to be fine but I can't promise anything. I've never tested the particular NIC type.
-
@stephenw10 @WN1X thanks for both your input...I found a dell i350-t4 used...seems like a respectable source...from those serve the home forum post...
-
@NaibElSayel Good luck and let us know how you make out with the replacement card. Make sure to check it is not a fake once it arrives.
-
@WN1X @stephenw10 so the card I got is a bust...if the card has a sticker like "manufactured by intel for IBM" is that still good, I saw a few cards with yottamarks but you can no longer verify them as the site doesn't work. Is it still good with a yottamark or no?
