Netgate 4100 Failes to boot after storm

After a storm, I found my 4100 flashing 3 blue lights. The console showed no output and had no response. So I cycled the power, and captured the console log as it boot.

The console showed the following.

Later in the log it shows

Valid interfaces are:

ix0     ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff (down) Intel(R) X553 L (KR Backplane)
ix1     ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff (down) Intel(R) X553 L (KR Backplane)

Do VLANs need to be set up first?
If VLANs will not be used, or only for optional interfaces, it is typical to
say no here and use the webConfigurator to configure VLANs later, if required.

Should VLANs be set up now [y|n]?

Any thoughts?

I have since found out the 4100 is now obsolete. Are these things worth repairing?

It sounds like you may be out of luck, but you may as well try reinstalling (if you haven't yet). I suppose whether it's worth repairing depends on the damage how much time you're willing to put into it. Personally I've gone through my share of fried equipment; no issues for a few years now after using a couple of UPS'!

Hardware (NICs) are found but not readable.

That's not a a storm (wind, water, floods and so on). This is most probably lightning entering the copper wires somewhere and it followed the path right into t least one of the NICs, you were using ix0 (1) as a WAN (as I do) ?
With some luck, can you use one of the other 4 ? the igc0 igc1 igc2 igc3. The 4 ports on the right.

If you have a fiber access, lightning didn't come in by the 'coax' or copper phone (ADSL), your WAN, so it came in via another networked device.

Mmm, those two remaining NICs are not populated on the 4100 so could not have been affected by any line surge. Which is probably why they are still showing up.

I was wondering : what are these ix0 and ix1, as I've ix2 and ix3 which are usable.

I'm using these to protect my SG-4100.
This RJ-45 comes from the ISP modem, then goes to my SG-4100.

Yeah, you are "spot on" or "right on the money".
I did not want to mention the lightning first up as I wanted people's opinion.

This was a storm with a very fierce bolt of lightning nearby. No other appliances/equipment in the house was damaged by any power surge, however I lost all devices from WAN side of 4100 to the internet.
I will be using some SFP devices to isolate this in future.

They look to be surge suppressors and close lightning is going to take them out as well.
I think I will go optical and never have to worry.

My understanding is the ix0 and ix1 are internal backplane channels and are not accessible to the outside world, but used internally for internal routing etc.

ix0/1 are simply unpopulated in the 4100. Those are the additional 10G ports used in the 6100 and 8200. They exist in the SoC but are disabled, the OS simply sees them as backplane type, they are unused here.

iClamper is a company with a great reputation in Brazil.
We don't have a great infrastructure, so everyone uses it around here.
I have customers with farms, and if I don't use those there, especially there, every now and then lightning burns equipment.

It has a varistor component built in, it is like a little sponge or pillow that can protect you even if you don't have proper power grounding.

If you don't find it in your location, search for good companies with good reputation.

Out of my head, I probably bought more than a hundred of these in the past 5 years or so..

This is a guy testing it, video is in Portuguese, but you can generate subtitles or perhaps just watch it without audio to see how it works.
