I've been trying to dd any of the embedded images to a number of cf cards today.  Everything from beta3 to rc1a and utilising 3 differnet cf cards.
The dd-ing goes fine but the resultant image on the cf card is showing geometry problems in fdisk and also refuses solidly to boot.
      Any ideas?

The tutorials here all recommend using http://www.m0n0.ch/wall/physdiskwrite.php (physdiskwrite) to send the image to CF.

While I'd think dd would work, you might try that and see if you still have problems.

        PS. There's a walkthrough here: http://www.pfsense.com/mirror.php?section=/tutorials/wrap_install/wrap_install.htm

Thanks wescb.  Fortunately/unfortunately I don't have any windows machines here so that's not an option.  I don't suspect either the usb card reader/writer or the systems I've used because other images of varying os's are still dd-ing perfectly.  I'll get a chance to try it again later and post the fdisk outputs.

What'S the target system? try to play around with CHS/LBA mode and or enable/disable advanced ata and ultradma modes. I needed to do this to make my via c3s boot from cfcards.
