Upgrade from 1.2.3 to 2.0 rc1
-
i want to upgrade my 1.2.3 pfsense box to 2.0 rc1.
i downloaded pfSense-Full-Update-2.0-RC1-amd64-20110226-1626.tgz
and in the pfsense webgui i went to firmware updates picked the files and selected upgrade firmware. now it just sits and says waiting on xxx.xx.x.x. my interent is still working fine so i didnt know if i was doing something wrong.
-
Did you pick the "Full Update" file?
You can try going to System/Firmware/Updater Settings and choose the 6 hour (i think) snapshots, save and then induce the upgrade button on Auto Upgrade…
I believe you will still have to click the "unsigned images" box... although don't quote me on that...
-
so you think i would update to the 2.0 beta and then from there run the auto update. i would really rather not do that since im sure there has been people that have just updated from 1.2.3 to 2.0. also im thinking about just doing a fresh install. but i have not decided i have till tonight since i dont want it shutdown during the day.
-
It should update to the rc as thats whats on the snapshot server…
Start the process and look at the date. If you leave the page it will should halt the process...
-
it says 2.0 BETA snap shots for i368 and 64.
-
Set it for the 2.0 beta 64 snapshots and it will download the latest rc1 version.
-
Okay Thanks. i might try this first though
Download the full update file from your favorite mirror. In the web interface, visit the System -> Firmware page and upload that file there.
Alternatively, the console upgrade mechanism is preferred by some users. Enable SSH on the Advanced page, SSH into your pfSense install, and choose the console upgrade menu option. It's easiest to paste the URL of the update file location there. The system then automatically downloads and installs the specified update, including verification of the md5.The SSH way
but does anyone know how long it should take?
-
Good luck… Ive not tried through the console myself and may play with my test box just for the experience of doing so...
Anyway- I just loaded 1.2.3 on my test box and tried what I outlined above and got - New version: Fri Mar 4 23:53:31 EST 2011 which is RC1...
Off topic- I think the drive in my test box needs bearings... :P
-
so you did the snapshot? and you got RC1. if thats the case i will just do that.
-
so it said it was complete. internet is still working but when i go to my https address i get this.
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '&', expecting T_VARIABLE or '$' in /etc/inc/interfaces.inc on line 1023
know why?
But when I plug a monitor into my pfsense box it still says pfsense is updating. So I guess I will give it till tomorrow to finish and I will get back to you. Does anyone know how long it should take to do this?
-
I download the snapshot builds to my netbook, check the md5sum and if its correct, upload the snapshot build to my pfSense. I would say the upload and install generally takes well under 15 minutes though it does seem to vary depending on what packages need to be updated.
I've been caught a couple of times by changing to a different browser tab and missing the box that says the build is unsigned and asks do I want to proceed.
My system has a 1GHz VIA CPU and a slow and small solid state disk.
-
Do you have a console screen connected to it? Sounds like the install is getting hung up somewhere…
-
yeah i have a console screen connected to it. on the webgui it said that the install was complete but the console still says that its upgrading what do i do reboot the system?
-
I rebooted the system and i was able to get back into the webgui it says it's on 2.0 rc1 my wan looks correct and my LAN is correct but I don't have Internet access on any computers. And none of my services are running do I need to reinstall my packages?
Also if I reboot the system I have to ssh into it and redraft the webgui or it wont work.
-
On my shop connection which is dsl I ended up initiating the "setup wizard" found under "system" to get things going but that was several months ago…
I was having problems getting the box to connect to my provider at the time...
What does your interfaces box on your dashboard report? You may have to add it by clicking the + box just above system information on that page...
-
My interfaces are fine wan has the right ip and LAN has the right ip once i started dhcp server pcs got there ip but still no web
i ran though the setup… didnt change anything and automatically my web showed back up. thanks for the idea and the help.
90% of my services wont start so im thinking its something wrong with the configuration between 1.2.3 and 2.0. correct?
-
also none of my rrd graphs are showing up they all say there has been an error creating the graphs please check your system logs for further details

also there was another update so i decided to do it and its been 3 hours now and it still says its updating. think its hung up again?

I just tried doing an upgrade from 1.2.3 -> 2.0 RC1. I'm running it in a VM and it's had the CPUs pegged for over 30 min. It doesn't seem normal. I did the upgrade process via SSH and it's just showing the "…...". I did a config back up before I did the back up. If I do a clean install of 2.0 can I just reload my config settings ?
Thanks,
Raul -
You should probably start a new topic. since this topic has been dead for a while now.
I do not know the answer to your question, but i would think it would work. since upgrading is the same thing. Just remember that some packages that worked on 1.2.3 do not work on 2.0.
