        It would help people if you mentioned where on the planet you were and what you consider cheap.

          @star_tiger5:

          Please suggest me cheap,simple,reliable vlan capable switch.

          Microtik RB250GS: 5 ports, available where I live for about the local equivalent of US$55.

          A number of people in the forums have suggested Netgear GS108 variant (I think you need the correct suffix to get VLAN capability).

          I have no experience with any of the above but have had good service for a couple of years from a HP Procurve 1700-8 (which I think is no longer available).

          When last I looked I didn't see any "commodity" switches claiming VLAN capability.

            i have a question:
            Netgear GS108 is Unmanageable switch.
            According to my friend view only manageable switch may have system of VLAN.
            Is this view is correct or not????

              As wallabybob said, the base GS108 doesn't have VLAN capability. However the GS108T does (hence his comment about needing the correct suffix).

                  @star_tiger5:

                  netgear GS108T-200.
                  Is this Switch is VLAN capable for pfsense?

                  The GS108Tv2 (GS108T-200) would work, as well as the RB250GS. I like the Netgear because of the metal housing and the warranty.

                    I believe the GS108E (and the GS105E) are vlan capable if you need a cheaper option.

                      And you only get a Windows configuration utility to configure those VLANs

                          I have both the Netgear GS108Tv2 and the HP 1810G-8. which I think is still current.

                          Not much to separate them really.  Both work well as VLAN-capable switches.

                          Both have useless NTP clients.  The Netgear polls the NTP server every minute until it gets a Kiss-of Death reply and the HP NTP client just doesn't work properly.  Not much good if you want to log anything from them.

                            The GS105E switch as well as only having the Windows configuration program " Pro Safe Plus Utility"will only let you change ip address etc if it's in the same subnet as the managing machine i.e it will still "discover" it , using Layer 2 presumably but you have to change the subnet of the manager to do anything.
                            The GS108Tv2 has a Windows config " Smart control center" which allows ip address changes on the switch irrespective of the managing pc  ip AS WELL as the Web interface - much more useful

                              £48 (gs105e) vs £63 (gs108t). I guess it depends just how often you need to reconfigure your switch  ;) As well as how many ports you need and the additional features of the 108T etc. Seems like the extra money is worth it to me.

                                  on pfSense add VLANsvia Interfaces: VLAN

                                  on the switch:
                                  add all the same VLANs
                                  make sure the port that goes to pfSense has a T (for tagged) for all those VLANs
                                  then on each other port, have a U (for untagged) for one VLAN and set the PVID to the same
