Just for the record will the following wireless card fit onto that motherboard

      http://www.amazon.co.uk/D-Link-DWA-556-Wireless-Desktop-Adaptor/dp/B000V6C718

and does anybody know if it will work as an access point.

Just one last question do you know the power consumption of the machine I know in one of the links it gives numbers but I was just wondering if you had done any tests because in another post someone mentioned his setup using the same mb was only using 16 watts.

      Thanks In advance

      Dan

No, that card will not work with that motherboard.  It has a PCI slot, that card is PCI-Express.  (It's also hard to tell if that supplier supplies a PCI Riser Card, even.)

I need to find a good deal on a motherboard/case/psu like that here in the USA.  Good find.

The board we are discussing (X7SPA-HF-D525) has a PCIe slot so would work with that card.
The chassis references a pci card but only in terms of component space.

The DWA-556 is listed as supported here:

It's not totally clear, but does the barebones box include the processor?

…or I could update, as I got one through the post.

                    IT DOESN'T INCLUDE THE MOTHERBOARD!

(hence it's going back, as an HP Microserver +NIC is cheaper)

                      Ooops!
That explains why the website is a bit light on detail.  ::)

It did look a bit suspicious when the motherboard alone retails for just under £200.

yup even know the company advised me it comes with a motherboard, it didnt. Thanks for that lambda-tek.

Anyway I have ordered http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Intel-D2500CC-D2500CCE-Mini-ITX-Dual-Core-ATOM-CPU-2x-Intel-LAN-Car-PC-Carputer-/200725215717?pt=US_Motherboard_CPU_Combos&hash=item2ebc27b9e5 at a cost of £88.64.

Good price for a good spec Atom motherboard. Since lambda will not take it back because i have opened the parcel tape, which apparently now means its opened. I will just use this case with above motherboard.

Ouch! Sounds like a company that will never be seeing my money.  ;)

Nice Build, I have the same chassis, but use an older board (got it from work free - We make loadbalancers out of them) with an old Atom 330 CPU nice at 8w TDP just need to change the PSU for a low power one. adding a dlink 556 to it shortly too for wifi.

I also use a IDE 4Gig DOM for the drive http://buymemory.com/transcend-4gb-dom-vertical-40pin-V-TS4GPTM510-40V-TS4GDOM40V-S.html (again from work)

Yeah with distance selling regulations they should not only take it and give you your money back - your free to do this even if you just decide you don't want it within 14 days.

But if its not as described they should also refund the shipping to you and also the return shipping!
