Pfsense 2.2.4 nanobsd config.xml not found
-
Hi,
pfsense hangs during startup with the problem I found in archiv as solved. https://forum.pfsense.org/index.php?topic=94900.0
I wrote the image via Windows 7 and ubuntu, but same result.
Atix 2D13, 4gb CF-Card
I used image pfSense-2.2.4-RELEASE-4g-i386-nanobsd.img.gz. I downloaded it twice from different mirrors, checksums where ok (sha256sum -c pfSense-2.2.4-RELEASE-4g-i386-nanobsd.img.gz.sha256)
What could I did wrong or is there still/again this bug?
Thanks
pfadmin -
try deleting all partitions from CF card before writing image to it
-
Thanks for reply, but I did this before flashing (dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdb bs=1M count=1). Ubuntu comes with an window to tell me that it cannot mount or so the 53mb partition after flashing is done. are there this missing config files? If no one has problems with this image on this machines, it could be a problem with my hardware. can someone tell me, that it works with fresh installed 2.2.4 x86 nanobsd 4gb without old configs or so?
Thank you!
-
Eh? Why are you trying to mount UFS in Ubuntu?
-
I flashed the cf with dd in a console in ubuntu. At one point ubuntu tries to do something with the cf. Maybe not mounting, but it came up with a window that tells me, it can nothing do with the 53mb partition. Only the 53mb part! It could be that I missinterpret it, but same result under windows: pfsense don't start because config.xml is not there…
-
WTF?!?!? Are you trying to RUN the image under Windows ??!! Or what? You write the image, stick it to the Alix and boot from. There's serial console available, you can use PuTTY for that and post the console output….
Messing with/trying to mount/similar WTF under Windows or Ubuntu won't produce absolutely anything, let alone useful information. There's no UFS filesystem/BSD slices support in Windows, and very much doubt the Ubuntu kernel has this compiled in by default either.
-
no no no, stop thinking so bad! ;D
I first try to flash the pfsense image under windows to my 4gb cf card for the atix2d13, then as it don't work in the atix again under ubuntu. the serial console told me that pfsense can't come up because config.xml is not there.
I used this wiki https://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Writing_Disk_Images
-
Sigh… Post the actual full output from the console, from where it boots to where it stops.
-
ok, need to do that on weekend. Thank you so long!

I try to write the cf under deft8. There dd comes to an end and after that, the system recognised the 3rd partition with 53MB, but don't try to automaticaly mount this partition like ubuntu. But anyway, same end.
Thanks

The thread you linked initially has no relation. That was never a problem in any release version.
Not being able to find the config most often happens when you write the upgrade image (which has no conf slice) rather than the one for new installs. That'd be a filename ending in "nanobsd-upgrade.img.gz" rather than "nanobsd.img.gz". Judging by the filename posted that wouldn't be the case, but make sure you're really using the right file. If you are, there's something wrong with how you're writing it, or your system's doing something to break it after it's written.
That's assuming it isn't throwing out any errors while writing. Try the 2 GB image instead, maybe your 4 GB CF is slightly too small to hold the 4 GB image.

Hi,
sorry for delay, but WAF was going down ;D
The 2g image works as it should. So I'm fine at this moment.
Thank you for your assistent
