Easier way to keep your machine updated for Full Installations
-
I keep failing to post instructions on how full installation users can keep up to date with pfSense changes.
This DOES NOT update FreeBSD but updates all pfSense base components such as the webConfigurator, etc.
The process takes about 200 megs to store the CVS tree for really fast subsequent updates.
To get started, go to a shell and type:
cvs_sync.sh releng_1
Sit back while your system is updated. You can do this daily, weekly, etc to follow our development progress on your full installation.
And NO, this does not work on embedded installs.

will it work to update the dev version from 0.96.2 to 1.0 beta 2 or higher ?
-
Is there any way to update FreeBSD via CVS? I remember somebody saying that you have to put some dirs to rw mode…
Any thoughts?

Yes, but keep in mind you are not getting FreeBSD changes.

/janNope. We only commit pfSense related files and helpers. The base FreeBSD files are not in cvs and therefore do not get sync'd. And since we do not have a compiler the standard way of keeping FreeBSD up to date will not work either. You are at the mercy of our update system.

So, the only way is to download full install, install it and upload config file… Quite an issue, since I have all on VLANs and nothing on "physical" interface... is there a way to upload config from console via CD/DVD/floppy/USB key ? That would be quite usefull...

Not uploading a config, but you can transfer a config to a msdos formatted removable device.
