    windows 7 cant access internet using pfsense

      the pfsense has wan set by dhcp and lan statically using 192.168.1.1
      windows statically configured to have 192.168.1.5 and gateway of 192.168.1.1
      I can access web gui and can ping 8.8.8.8 but cant using its domain name
      also why cant I acess the internet?

        What does an ipconfig /all show from a command prompt ?

        Also from the firewall does google.com resolve via Diagnostics -> DNS Lookup ?

                  @nogbadthebad yes its manually configured.
                  the dns servers are
                  127.0.0.1 1193 msec
                  192.168.43.2 58 msec
                  8.8.8.8 192 msec
                  when I used dns lookup

                      @nogbadthebad I didn't add a dns server for the w7. am I supposed to ? and if yes what dns server should I use.

                        How does the PC know were to go to resolve DNS addresses.

                        Yes if you manually configure an IP address on a host you also need to configure the IP of the DNS Server.

                          @nogbadthebad I see. Thank you very much I was stuck for a while and tried everything on pfsense. Didn't know the problem was with w7. Thanks again.

                            Not a w7 problem. Every OS on the planet asked for the same info
                            Without a DNS things go bad.
