I was wondering if there is any OEM or 3rd party expansion cards to AES-NI functionality.

I'd suppose those expansion card would outweigh the cost of a new APU2/3/4 so it's a question of "does it make sense financially"?

One could perhaps try the Soekris module: https://store.netgate.com/Soekris-VPN1411-Crypto-accelerator-P319.aspx
But the market for those is sinking as most modern CPUs of the last years simply added AES-NI support. And around 40-60$/€ are a lot compared that you can get your hands on a new APU2/3/4 for less then 200$ alltogether, get AES-NI and a higher CPU througput and more RAM in one bundle.

If you're interested, I'm available to discuss details of German-speaking paid support (for companies) if needed.

Yup almost certainly not worth it. That particular card is miniPCI and the APU is miniPCIe so you'd need to find something different anyway.

@stephenw10 Thanks for the response. I am sure that the life cycle for the my APU is pretty much done. She has served me well, but considering that I will probably be looking to use squid and suricata, it might be time for me to bite the bullet and upgrade accordingly.
