Hi I have a CHELSIO T520-SO-CR 2-Port 10GbE Server Offload Adapter with PCI-E x8 Gen 3, SFP+ Connector. I would like to use the two SFP ports to run neth0 to get my ATT BGW 320 out of the way. How ever I am unable to get any type of activity from the Chelsio when I connect the fiber. I have assigned the two SFP ports one as Wan the other as Lan. lights on the card on boot initializes lights flash and then go dead. I disabled the bios feature for the card so PfSense can manage the cards. What am I missing, has anyone tried this if so please enlighten me.

How does pfatt fail? What does the log show?

Ah, wait I misread that. You get no link at all?
Have you tried setting them to 1G fixed speed?

@stephenw10 no I have not but I will try on Tuesday won't be back home till then.

ok I get and error in pFSense when I insert the module (unknow transceiver inserted) it is the Nokia module that comes with the AT&T BGW320 gateway. will have to get a different transceiver and try again.
-
What sort of module is it? Model number?
Looks like it must be a BiDi module of some sort...
-
@stephenw10 looks like it is a class 1 gpon onu sfp

Hmm, I have no idea if a Chelsio NIC can work with that.
I've never seen anyone using pfatt with a fibre NIC dircetly either. Someone has probably tried though.

Doesn't look good though: https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r32949151-

Mmm, looks like a similar Nokia gpon module worked in a Chelsio T420. Hard to say how similar though.
-
What is the actual part number of the Nokia SFP module?
It's probably going to be something like: 3FE53441FB
What are the exact error logs the Chelsio shows when it's inserted?

This is all the module has on it's label. sorry about the bad pics phone has difficulty with low light.
-
Ok so what's the part number? I can't really read that. It is 3fe...something as I thought it would be.
That should define exactly what it is but it may not help much. There doesn't appear to be any option to force the Chelsio NIC to accept any module in the FreeBSD driver.
What is the error it shows exactly?

@stephenw10 3FE46899AAAA...DMESG simply says (UNKNOWK TRANSCEIVER INSERTED)

This gentleman used a Nokia transceiver also...I am using the same Chelsio T420 but getting the error.
-
Probably not the same Nokia transceiver though.
May also have been different firmware on the NIC.

@stephenw10 I got the new gpons today inserted them and got no error like before (unknown module) pfSense seems to recognize the new GPONS however I get the following error on boot CXGBE0: l1cfg failed: 22...any idea what this might be?
