Hmm, I have no idea if a Chelsio NIC can work with that.

I've never seen anyone using pfatt with a fibre NIC dircetly either. Someone has probably tried though.

Mmm, looks like a similar Nokia gpon module worked in a Chelsio T420. Hard to say how similar though.

What is the actual part number of the Nokia SFP module?

It's probably going to be something like: 3FE53441FB

What are the exact error logs the Chelsio shows when it's inserted?

Ok so what's the part number? I can't really read that. It is 3fe...something as I thought it would be.

That should define exactly what it is but it may not help much. There doesn't appear to be any option to force the Chelsio NIC to accept any module in the FreeBSD driver.

What is the error it shows exactly?

Probably not the same Nokia transceiver though.

May also have been different firmware on the NIC.

@stephenw10 I got the new gpons today inserted them and got no error like before (unknown module) pfSense seems to recognize the new GPONS however I get the following error on boot CXGBE0: l1cfg failed: 22...any idea what this might be?

What are these new devices specifically?

And this is in a Chelsio T420?

Looks like it's failing to set the Layer 1 config (speed/duplex/flow-control):
