@steveits i did setup traffic shaping using Codel .
Its on my initial post.I started having bad bufferbloat months ago and adjusted that and am using a floating rule.
now the bufferbloat started back up presumably after upgrading from 500 to gig speeds. -
well this is interesting. I reset all of my equipment and now everything is better.
glitch?

Its on my initial post.I have been known to read over things but I don't see "shaping" or "codel" in the post, just "limiters"...? At any rate, glad you got it sorted out. When in doubt restart. :)

bonus round = ive been online after the reboot with no issue but my dashboard is wonky now
shows 100% packet loss and offline ... uhm im online so im confused
-
So it seems that even with limiters.
when i go on VPN on another machine bufferbloat goes up to D ratingwhen my wife also goes on vpn thats when we hit the 2000's for bufferbloat.
this is really annoying.
-
@tryk so after around 24h's you start mentioning that a vpn is involved?
-
@heper I was just told this morning that my wife was using vpn as this was not the case before.
something new so im on vpn and apparently she just started to use VPN. -

So vpn inside another vpn? Yeah not very useful if what your after is performance ;)
If your adamant about wanting to use vpn on your network - prob good idea to policy route at least her connection to not use your default vpn.. When she is connecting to hers
-
@johnpoz hmm maybe i wasnt clear or not understanding.
pfsense doesnt use any vpn.My work laptop has vpn and now my wifes work laptop uses vpn.
-
Ah ok - I misunderstood your statement then..
-
@johnpoz its ok i wrote it kinda wonky .
so im at the point where i have no clue whats going on.
After the last 2 reboots now my thermal sensors dont populate at all and sits on updating.I feel like maybe this box needs a full rebuild.
Just odd that when i have 2 seperate vpns running i then get crazy bufferbloat and the network turns sluggish. turn 1 vpn off then its better .

I don't have a source, sorry, but I'm pretty sure I've seen other posts about that and I want to say there is a fix that can be applied. Alternately 2.5.1 should be out shortly (days to weeks, sounds like).
