Hi, I have a pFSense SG-8860 (desktop version not the SG-8860-U).  I just performed a firmware update as recommended by the e-mail sent by Netgate today.  The firmware update seemed to work fine but it looks like my device lost its serial number on the status/dashboard screen (Under System).  The serial number just has a bunch of question mark icons.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?  Is there a way to get the serial number back in it's original state?

Hi, same issue here but on an SG-4860. Not sure if its related, but the system is also 'Unable to check for updates.'

The serial number issue happened to me (SG-4860 desktop version), too, though I'm still able to check for updates.

Edit: In case it's relevant, I used the remote update method described on https://www.netgate.com/docs/sg-4860/adi-bios-flash.html including physically turning the power off and on again afterwards.

IMPORTANT - we have published a guide on updating BIOS remotely, however because of an issue we have removed the guide.

If you followed the guide and now your pfSense dashboard shows symbols instead of units serial, please contact us for a fix. It's purely a cosmetic issue so no need to panic. Please contact support@netgate.com if your unit is not displaying a serial. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Just an update.  Instructions and fix from Netgate Customer Support worked like a charm.

Is there a way from the GUI or SSH to confirm that the BIOS update has been correctly completed?

                      kenv smbios.bios.version

                      [2.3.3-RELEASE][root@pfSense.localdomain]/root: kenv smbios.bios.version
                      ADI_RCCVE-01.00.00.12-nodebug

Should be safe to run in Diagnostics > Command Prompt as well.
