Watchguard XTM 5 Series Failed

  • Hey all!
Got back last night to my internet not working and went downstairs and can hear the fans going full blast on my Watchguard firewall running pfSense.  I shut it down and attempt to reboot but it never comes up.  Nothing is showing up from the console but it does beep once like it is going through post.  Any thoughts on what I can do to troubleshoot?

Hmm, Fans going at full speed implies the CPU was running flat out. The fans run thermal control by default.

Does it boot the original WG OS CF card if you have that?

It sounds like a hardware failure if you previously did have console output. Try removing anything you can.

Tried booting the original CF card and the same hint. Also tried with no CF or SSD and no ram and different combos with the same result. I should note that the fans don't seem to be at full blast now, that was what was happening when I first noticed and shut down.

Hmm, even with no boot media you should be seeing the BIOS output. Assuming you have proven you serial terminal setup on that box previously it does sound like a hardware issue.

Does it beep when powered on?

Try swapping out the RAM if you can. Re-seat the CPU if it's been moved about at all. Remove the crypto card, it's unsupported anyway.
