Can't login through the GUI
-
So when I attempt to login through the GUI and use the password that I'm 99% positive is the correct password, the system beeps at me and returns to the login screen. When I attempt to use any other password, the system beeps, returns to the login screen and tells me that I have an incorrect username or password. Just to be clear, when I attempt to login with the password that I'm 99% positive is the correct password, the system does NOT tell me that I have an incorrect username or password. Any idea's why I can't login? Update: same results in Chrome & Firefox. All I can think of is that the system has my IP or MAC address blocked from logging in to the system somehow and that's why it's rejecting me??

That's the thing though. I feel confident that the password I'm using is the correct password because when I enter any password except that one, the system tells me that I've got the wrong username or password. That is why I was asking whether it could be something other than the wrong password?

Hi, Activate console access - by default, no password is needed (edit : bonus : and in this case, when login, pfSense 'beeps' : does yours ?).
When login into the GUI succeeds and you didn't change default behavior, a line like this will be printed :pfsense php-fpm[9752]: /index.php: Successful login for user 'admin' from: ….. You saw it ?
A failing user/password shows you :pfsense php-fpm[66600]: /index.php: webConfigurator authentication error for 'office' from …. You are using 'admin' as the user ?
Did you add other users ?Does this file exist : /tmp/webconfigurator.lock ?

pfSense beeps with any attempt to login
I'll have to plug a monitor into pfSense tomorrow to check for the feedback on attempts to login
admin is the user I'm attempting to login with
I did not add any other users
I'll check if that file exists once I get a monitor plugged in.

When I attempt to login with what I believe to be the correct password, I receive this message from the display connected directly to the pfsense box: pfSense php-fpm[65475]: /index.php: Successful login for user 'admin' from: … The attempt with the correct password makes the pfSense box beep and return to the login screen When I attempt to login with a password I know to be wrong: pfSense php-fpm[65475]: /index.php: webConfigurator authentication error for 'admin' from … The attempt with the wrong password makes the pfSense box beep and return to the login screen, but display the message: Username or Password incorrect Additional info that I discovered by plugging a monitor into the machine: there is an error code that seems to keep popping up: vnode_pager_getpages: I/O read error
vm_fault: pager read error, pid 91204 (rrdtool)
that error keeps going up as far as I can see with different pid codes: 24888, 49767, 75113, 97506, 20388, 46718, 73768, 95036, 17314, 39423, 67306, 91204EDIT: Based on a couple of searches on those error codes above, from what I can tell, I have a bad hdd and should swap it out? Can anybody confirm?

What probably happens is that your login is ok.
When identified, a local shell is started with you - admin as a user, and that fails because there is some hardware (?) error (disk, memory, whatever).
I guess it's time to throw a thorough test on device - re install pfSense when done.

Just realized I never updated this one. The problem has been solved. It was a bad HDD. Thank you guys for the help.
