Server which has a virtual IP becomes unable to do DNS queries after the PPPoE connection is reestablished...

My Internet access is pretty unstable right now (it is supposed to get fixed soon but I am not holding my breath).
Each time that happens the DNS running on one of the servers which has a virtual IP stops being unable to query outside DNS servers and needs to be rebooted.
Now everytime the PPPoE connection is reestablished I get the following error message:
/rc.newwanip: The command '/sbin/ifconfig 'pppoe0' inet '188.8.131.52'/'32' alias ' returned exit code '1', the output was 'ifconfig: ioctl (SIOCAIFADDR): Destination address required'
Could this be the cause of the problem and if it is why does rebooting the server and not the firewall fixes thing?
Now this appears to be the problem reported here:
which is, as someone already mentioned, not a duplicate and is about a year old.
I saw a fix somewhere which address this problem but was not originally meant for pfSense so I am somewhat leery to apply it to my firewall...
Could anybody shed some light on the problem I am experiencing and if it is, in any way, related to the error message I get when the PPPoE connection is reestablished?
Thank you and have a nice day!
