DHCPREQUEST is bloating my log
-
My post is similar to "DHCPREQUEST does not complete?" http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,1026.0.html but not exactly.
It seems that my DHclient is trying to renew the DHCP IP every couple of minutes. I dont really care, because I dont seem to be losing internet connection like hedberg is in his post. But I was wondering if there is a way to specify my own lease time for dhclient, like I can for the DHCP server. When I was using a linksys device for a router/firewall, the lease would seem to last a lot longer than what is going on here.
My ISP is Road Runner, and I hope that the know how to run a network :)

What version?

Sorry, I got excited.
RELENG_1_SNAPSHOT-07-01-2006

What is strange about this situation is that there are no replies being registered. Let me whip up another dhclient for you test.
-
Run this from a shell:
/etc/rc.conf_mount_rw
fetch -o /sbin/dhclient http://www.pfsense.com/~sullrich/dhclient -
Thanks, that seems to have done the trick. you guys rock. By the way, did I need to restart anything? I just ran the command and it hasnt reappeared in the log for at least an hour.
-
Hrm. Very strange. I'll update the images.

Just out of curiosity, I rebooted my machine when I got home from work, and the DHCP client wont work. I chcked the interface settings, and it seems to look fine. There was nothing in the logs, but the Status:interfaces page said DHCP: Down. I clicked renew about 100 times, still no workie!!
-
Does dhclient even excecute now from a shell?
Run dhclient <enter>and paste the results.</enter>
-
/sbin/dhclient: Permission denied
I am logged in as root, even tried su and got the same error
-
chmod a+rx /sbin/dhclient
shutdown -r now
-
Thanks,
Ya know, I should really know better than to check the permissions!! I am supposedly a RedHat Certified Technician, but I gues it still makes me a pfsense certified Newbie.
But since that other dhclient wasnt running until now, we cant be sure that the whole log problem is fixed. I will check back and post my results in an hour or so.
Thanks again!

So far so good, im out for the night. I am sure its fine, but if it isnt, I will post in the morning. Thanks for such an awesome product!!
