The Protectli doesn’t have the switch ports that the SG-3100 has, which is kinda a benefit. But, this totally depends on your network and how you want to use the box. The Protectli is also probably a faster machine.

Install pfsense and give it a spin.

@kewe said in Netgate SG 3100 or protectli 4 port?:

gave me his 4 port protectli device.

Yeah he prob gave it to you because its "shit" heheh would be my take... I normally don't give away stuff that has value to me... So right there that he gave it away to you should tell you how much value it has..

What did he replace it with? That it's laying around, and not even worth sitting on his shelf as spare - so he just gave it to you ;)

So he is giving you something he got for free, again because he has no use of it.. ;) That tells you how much value it has - if it was good - he would be using it in his network...

Are you saying he is using one, and has 2 other on his shelf as spares, so he gave you an extra.. If you have a 3100, what model of is what he gave you?

Use the SG-3100 and the new device in a lab playground.
I think is the best solution.
