Brain puzzle anyone ?

 I have an ubutnu box that usually is connected to VPN. I Whitelisted all subnets in teh VPN settings and this box is accessible via ssh and responds to ping. I do connect to this box sometimes via VNC from a Windows 10 system. Problem - when I try to connect for the 1-st time via VNC from Windows 10 my connection times out and fails. Then if I ping the ubuntu box and VNC again - connections succeeds ! Anybody knows what in the world is going on ? Thx

 Similar problem with work and home PCs. DNS issue for me. FQDN first time always works. Ping and short name always works. YMMV

The "Clever" Ubuntu Box doesn't really want to talk to a M$ Box , unless you insist .....

 @andyrh same problem using IP

 Does the first ping time out? I have seen that at work but only when crossing a router. If so that time could cause Windows to become bored and give up.

 @andyrh said in Brain puzzle anyone ?: Does the first ping time out? no, ping seems to be working always either via FQDN or IP

 The problem is not limited to Windows. Seem to be related to when I connect to NordVPN other systems are having troubles to connect/resolve its name/IP What really makes it's interesting why after ping it works?!
