Community, I’m looking to build-a-box!! Deciding between these two Intel Core Processors

    I3 -10100 = $115
    I5-11400 = $183

Running with 2 Corsair 8GB 3200 RAM Sticks.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks,

    Technolust

Both are probably over powered but impossible to say without knowing what your WAN bandwidth is and how you plan to use it.

Thanks @stephenw10 WAN is 1G up 1G down (fiber) LAN 10G over Cat6A but I may get a fiber card and use DAC cables from pfsense to LAN switch (Layer 2).

If you want to be able to route at or close to 10G you need something as fast as you can get really.

If you are not routing internally and only need 1G then both are far more CPU than you need.

And using both ports for internal subnets?

If so you might want to route between them.

Thanks Steve, I was planing to use one for wired subnet and the other for wireless subnet and the onboard for external since it’s 1G the onboard is capable of 2.5G.
