Okay, nevermind, after debugging pfSense I learned that in fact I226-V does support ALTQ.

Turns out I just had my LAN interface accidentally set to ipv6 DHCP mode, which created a gateway for it, hence the wizard detected all my interfaces as WAN, and it requires the inputted amount to not be higher than the amount of WAN or LAN interfaces, whichever higher, so 1 was higher than 0.

The error message is a bit misleading as a result though.

Seems to be working after disabling ipv6 on LAN. I really need to understand ipv6 better before I get into that anyway.

I can't speak for Netgate directly on this, I wasn't involved in that decision.

Personally I prefer Intel because you're not paying for features that pfSense can't use. Both in money and power consumption/heat. In FreeNAS that's different. I imagine they might well use the TCP offloading the Chelsio NICs offer. Though I've never looked into it.

      More cooling never hurts!

Thanks Steve, I was planing to use one for wired subnet and the other for wireless subnet and the onboard for external since it’s 1G the onboard is capable of 2.5G.

What exactly is the issue you;re seeing here? Some graphics output issue?

Generally you do not need a monitor attached to pfSense so an AIO style box isn't a good target.

I'm going back to the drawing board. I think at this point I should stick with something Intel based. Thanks for all the replies.

Do you have a switch between the modem and pfSense?

I would expect power cycling the modem to restore the connection if ifconfig donw/up works.

The message is pretty clear, you can't use traffic shaping on ixl interfaces.

Next time check the supported devices on altq before you buy a NIC.
