pf sense drops all service, no LAN/ WiFi. Restart Necessary.
-
Hello, I ran into a problem - no wifi, no LAN so no internet. But, no matter how I tried to connect to the firewall itself, I was not able to. My fix was to gracefully shut down the firewall and restart and everything came back fine. This seems to happen every few months. This never happened with my other Apple Airport Extreme. Any ideas?

Your were using the console connection for this ?
You can also use this connection to check the log files. If there is anything to learn about 'why no LAN', then you can find it there : /var:/log/system.log and others.
If the LAN interface doesn't work, then this should not impact wifi, as this is another device, an AP. Or is there something that you are not telling us ? Like you're using a USB wifi dongle ?

Yeah !!
Call Apple and ask if they make their software public. Then someone can have a look and compare.
Btw : Not sure if you know this, but Apple and Netgate do not have the same budget. -

What's the hardware you're running on?

@rcoleman-netgate I have a netgate 4100

@jasiu82 The next time this happens open a ticket at https://go.netgate.com/.
Do not reset your system before doing that -- you will want us to see it in the failed state.In the interim open a ticket for the 22.05-RELEASE software, backup your 4100, reinstall pfSense, then restore your config.

@gertjan no console, (https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/solutions/netgate-4100/io-ports.html) under title "Left Side": Power Button (Protruding); Graceful shutdown (Hold 5s), hard power off (15s), power on (5s). I will need to check the log like you suggest. I'm using an apple airport express bridged to create the WiFi. Everything went out, Wifi, LAN...I had no connections whether wired or not. Thanks for the apple budgetary information suggestion, I'll keep that in mind.

2 Power Button (Protruding) Graceful shutdown (Hold 5s), hard power off (15s), power on (5s)
is new to me.Thanks for the info ;)
