How do I uninstall PF sense Community Edition from my laptop
-
@somerandomguyontheinternet Yes, and you also told me it used to boot into the USB, correct??
So use the boot menu, it won't boot into pfSense and you can choose the USB instead.
If you do that and it still won't boot, then the USB you're using doesn't have a bootable image on it. -
@somerandomguyontheinternet How did you create the usb drive? Maybe it isn’t being recognized as bootable.
What OS are you trying to install, Windows 11?
-
@jarhead I tried but every time when I boot into the USB it switches over to PF sense instead
-
@steveits I used Windows 95 and my BIOS has compatibility mode on I also tried other operating systems too the Windows 95 was on a disc I also need to earn reputation because I can only post every 120 seconds
-
@somerandomguyontheinternet Windows 95 is old enough it may not work on a current PC.
“Other” as in…?
For example for Win11 Microsoft has a page
https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows11
With “Create Windows 11 Installation Media” instructions.Or similar page https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows10.
-
@steveits I just said that I have the compatibility module I have used Windows 7 before and it worked
-
@jdeloach Do you know what a BIOS? Can you load it?
-
@michmoor I'm using an HP laptop powerbook
-
@somerandomguyontheinternet try
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_3891464-2337914-16
https://www.easeus.com/resource/hp-boot-menu.html#2 -
@steveits every time I go into the bootloader and I have a USB device attached it never boots properly it just boots into PF sense
-
@steveits which means I don't know how to fix it
-
@somerandomguyontheinternet Then it’s probably not a bootable USB.
-
@somerandomguyontheinternet Your laptop bios boot settings are not set to boot first from your desired operating system disk. Or the disk you want to boot from is no longer a bootable disk
-
@patch if you couldn't tell that my BIOS allows me to choose which device to boot off of then now you know so basically what I'm trying to say is every time I try to boot off of a USB drive it randomly boots PF sense instead
-
@steveits I tried multiple USB drives not even my phone could detect any of them I even used a CD-ROM of Windows 95 I didn't even make the wrong because it was an official ROM from the manufacturers themselves
-
@steveits also if I didn't mention it clearly enough even though I clearly did I'm trying to install Windows 95 because I have the compatibility module on my BIOS but every time I tried to boot it it shows up unlike every other USB drive I've tried but when I click on it it always says C drive is disc 0 but it boots into PF sense instead and I don't know why
-
@somerandomguyontheinternet Choices
- Bios setting error
- Broken hardware
Imo a bios setting error is mostly likely such as secure boot to UEFI when it is not supported by your hardware / boot medium. Which will force the bios to only boot to the more recent boot image
-
@patch ok
