pfsense v 23.05 on bare metal
previous video card: nvidia quadro with display port and DVI
current video card: nvidia GTX 980

This system was recently upgraded from CE to Plus and has been operating well for the past 3+ years. The console has always been flawless and was connected via DVI. I recently acquired another machine and it has only display ports, so I bought a display port to DVI adapter to use with the new machine, and since the quadro card in pfsense machine also has a display port, I figured I could just swap the cable as needed. I used the adapter to configure the new machine, (not related to pfsense), then switched it to the pfsense machine and the console was blank, no signal. I switched the cable/adapter to the new machine and it was also no signal. I have not used the adapter since. On the pfsense machine I switched back to just the DVI and still no signal. With the original monitor and DVI cable connected and on, I rebooted the pfsense machine and it was still no signal. I thought the adapter must have blown the video ports on both machines.

Tested the new machine with another OS and a new (display port) monitor worked. Swapped the quadro on the pfsense machine for the GTX 980 connected to the new monitor and now the monitor gets a signal but it remains blank. pfsense runs fine and I've logged in via the network. I suspect maybe something in the BIOS got changed but I can't get into it without the console working.

      Any ideas much appreciated.

@py Writing out the problem gave me a hint. Cleared the BIOS and was able to get the console back up. Looks like it had somehow enabled "Above 4G decoding." Disabling that worked.
