        It should be:

I will need drivers to use this device?

The in kernel driver will work.

The driver installable via kmod pkg may or may not run better.

Really if you can get a board that uses Intel NICs instead that would be far preferable.

@stephenw10 And the drivers from Realtek:
                REALTEK DRIVERS

I will need to install them?

Nope. The re(4) driver is included in pfSense by default.

But I encourage you to look at something with other NICs. 1G Realtek NICs are considered close to the worst choice in pfSense.

@stephenw10 may i ask why the NICs are a bad choice?

They have a bad reputation for just stopping passing traffic and for requiring more CPU than other NICs. A lot of that is from the earlier versions. You may have no problems.

@stephenw10 Do you know a better option with two 1Gb ports connected in a mini pci express port for 50€ ?
                        I didn't find a better option.

@fireodo Yes, can be. But i prefer the other one because i will use the board in a notebook and the other one has a cable to outside the notebook.
And needs to be mini pcie otherwise i will need an adapter.

Mmm, you can get Intel mPCIe boards but not <50€.

You might consider just not using an old notebook at all. They often seem like a good idea but they are not engineered to be always on.
