4100 can’t boot up after halt & power reconnected
-
Hi there,
I halted my 4100 via the Diagnostics menu before disconnecting it from power so I could move it.
In the new location, I reconnected the power but can’t get it to restart.
The front panel is flashing and that’s it. No lights on the network ports.
I tried pushing the power button. I tried holding the power button for 5 seconds. No luck.
Any suggestions on next steps?

@tapwater Describe the flashing?
https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/solutions/netgate-4100/io-ports.html#led-patternsOr https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/solutions/netgate-4100/connect-to-console.html and see what is shown on screen.

@SteveITS
They are flashing quickly in unison. It looks white to me, which is not listed in that table in the manual.I connected to the console via USB and am getting no response.

@tapwater Paging @stephenw10 :)
Or, I think you can get free support for this from Netgate TAC? It's at least worth trying.
-
Yes you should open a TAC ticket for that. https://www.netgate.com/tac-support-request
The only time I've seen that is when deliberately trying to confuse the microcontroller. Check that the power and reset buttons 'click as expected when you press them.

Thanks, I opened one a bit earlier.They asked me to connect to the console. I did that yesterday, but it seems I did not pay enough attention to the docs, since I connected after powering up the device.
Today I tried it before applying power. Once I did apply power, it started booting and seems to be healthy.
Currently I've got my old 3100 connected to the WAN. I can't test the 4100 on the WAN unless I can get the 3100 to release the DHCP lease. Otherwise, I have to wait for the lease to expire.
If anyone knows how to do that, I'd greatly appreciate it.
I see some posts about renewing a lease, but none for just releasing it.

@tapwater There’s a button on Status/Interfaces

You used the manual, and the cable that came with the box, right ?

As I noted above, the first time I did it I connected the console cable after power up. Later I connected it before power up and I got a response then. That seemed to have solved the problem. Everything is working now.
