Re: need multiple xboxs to connect to a single game server

Above is an old thread describing exactly my situation.

Some games like ESO work flawlessly and others like DayZ and Fallout refuse to let both Xboxes join the same server.

Both boxes report fully open NAT.

      My setup:

      • Two Xbox's with fixed IPs assigned via dhcp
      • Hyperoptic UK - with fixed IP address
      • latest pfsense plus, configured to correctly NAT for xblive (I think..? Both boxes report open NAT)

      I’m scratching my head a bit…

Mmm, basically the root cause here is that networking code in gaming is stuck is about 1997! In some games at least. Here what's probably happening is that both consoles are trying to use UPnP to open inbound port forwards using the same fixed ports. Quite why they don't use outbound connections with random ports is... a mystery!

But people have been forced to work around these large limitations and miniupnpd does so using masquerading. That was not available for a long time in FreeBSD and hence pfSense but it should now be working: https://redmine.pfsense.org/issues/7727

Does it fail to open a port?

Any other errors shown or logged?

        Steve

@shad0wca7 I play only on PC and can only see NAT type reported within each game. Is that possible also on Xbox? To go to some setting in e.g. DayZ and see what it is reporting as NAT type, regardless of what Xbox is saying? If so, do they also report Open NAT?

I have seen mentioning of the possibility to manually change the port used by Xbox but not sure how that applies to each individual game. But then at least you can make sure each of your Xboxes is using different ports...

Otherwise, the ports being listed for the three games you mention, DayZ and Fallout use the same ports as ESO (although there are quite a few additional ports for ESO).

Try checking the NAT type in each game on your Xbox, like in DayZ or Fallout. Sometimes the game shows a different NAT type than the Xbox settings. If it's showing strict or moderate NAT, that could be the problem.
