Netgate 7100-1U New NIC setup issues
-
Ah, yes in the default configuration ix2 and ix3 are part of the lagg so not available for assigning.
You still have the additional NIC present?
You can try restoring the config I sent you to use that.
-
@stephenw10 ya ix and ix2 not visible in web gui-
How do i restore the config.XML ? I tried but nothing uploaded -i read somewhere that if those assignments are missing pfsense has to be reinstalled ?How do i get this thing to recognize and upload the config ? -
@stephenw10 was wondering if i just said screw it and pull the new card out and do factory reset will those ports assign back to the way they were before ? Then set the assignments accordingly and then put the new card back in ? I dont understand but even if i got access through wan there is no point as ix2 and ix3 dont exist in web GUI or thats only cause i put
Ix1 as lagg0.4091 which is the secondary port on the new card -I dont think it allows for wan/lan on same card both of the ports have to be of the same wan or lan not wan/lan ? Im looking the easiest and less time constraining option as this issue has wasted so many days of my time
What is ix4 and ix5 in assignments isnt that part of lagg0 switch 2.5G do i need those ? -
@Sammy2Netgo so when i formatted fat 32 does it matter what i name the drive ? Currently its config ?then transfer the config.xml file into drive and it should work or am i doing it wrong ?
You need to let me know step by step as it doesnt work for me -
No it doesn't matter what you name the USB drive. Let me get an example log.....
I assume this is running 24.03?
-
@stephenw10 yea 24.03 then im confused as to why it dont upload config from usb

You can always just allow access to the webgui from the WAN side since that's just connnected to your ISP router and is also in a private subnet. Then just put a client in that segment connected to the ISP router and connect. Then you can just restore the config from the gui as normal.
-
@stephenw10 how would i restore from web gui does it have option to restore from usb ?Am i able to restore using my method to gain access to web gui when i put ix1 as lagg0.4090 and took off ixo as wan ? With you wan option would ix3 show up in assignments ?
-
Any method to get access to the webgui would work. You can just upload the file to restore from Diag > Backup/Restore in the webgui.
But once you restore it the config will change. You should still have access to LAN via Eth2-7.
ix3 will already be assigned as OPT3 and use the 192.168.208.200 address but you can then change any of that.
-
@stephenw10 so whats the difference from console factory reset to the gui restore ?wouldn't that be same ?so whats is the main component that i have to concentrate on thats stopping clients from connecting can you type me the config if i cant get this usb working ? What assignments i should make remove lagg0 ?
-
@Sammy2Netgo said in Netgate 7100-1U New NIC setup issues:
so whats the difference from console factory reset to the gui restore ?wouldn't that be same ?
Console (or gui) factory reset replaces the config with the default config which doesn't take into account the NIC you added.
Restoring a config can be any config. So if you restore the config I sent you that should boot back up with access because I added in the NIC assignments allowing for the extra card.
The problem you are seeing is almost certainly outside pfSense. Simply assigning WAN as ix1 and LAN as ix3 should be sufficient.
So either the switch is doing something unexpected or the client isn't using it. The fact it pulled a lease from the ISP router suggests it's somehow connected to it directly. So either through the switch somehow or possibly wifi. -
For reference this is how the USB drive appears for me:
[24.03-RELEASE][root@7100.stevew.lan]/root: ls -ls /dev/da* 0 crw-r----- 1 root operator 0x89 Sep 29 22:59 /dev/da0 0 crw-r----- 1 root operator 0x8a Sep 29 22:59 /dev/da0s1 [24.03-RELEASE][root@7100.stevew.lan]/root: mount_msdosfs /dev/da0s1 /mnt [24.03-RELEASE][root@7100.stevew.lan]/root: ls -ls /mnt total 72 72 -rwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 70394 Sep 29 23:01 config.xml
-
@stephenw10 so in web GUI i can upload the config file you sent me directly from pc instead of usb ?
-
Yes
-
@stephenw10
Yes all devices when i set only wan ix0
Lan ix3 devices conected to switch were pulling dhcp lease but not connecting-Once again i thank you for your patients and help I very much appreciate as i never had issues like this in past until the new card was installed.I will try to upload the config file through web GUI and let you know how it went -
@stephenw10 inhave question so if i reboot netgate router will that configuration i upload stay ?
-
Yes.
-
@stephenw10 i got into web GUI and tried to restore the config file but it failed with message an area to restore was selected but the correct xml tag could not be located ?what do i do it wont recognize the cofig file you sent me
-
@Sammy2Netgo i factory reset and got back into web gui -I took ix2 & ix3 off lagg0
So it shows up in assignments can you let me know how do i setup assignments that would work for my setup with external switch ?
Wan> ixo
Lan> ?
And do i need to set opt ?
Op1>
Opt2>
Opt3>
