Netgate 4200 thermal question
-
Good morning , i've just installed a new NG4200 and I see these thermal data
dev.cpu.0.temperature: 58.0C
dev.cpu.1.temperature: 58.0C
dev.cpu.2.temperature: 58.0C
dev.cpu.3.temperature: 58.0C
hw.acpi.thermal.tz0.temperature: 60.1CPlease someone could tell me if these values are normal or not ? ( for me it seems tzo a llittle bit high) .

What is the critical (CRT) temperature limit?
Although my non-Netgate appliance TZ0 is 26.9C, the critical limit is 95.1C
sysctl hw.acpi.thermal.tz0
hw.acpi.thermal.tz0._TSP: 50 hw.acpi.thermal.tz0._TC2: 5 hw.acpi.thermal.tz0._TC1: 1 hw.acpi.thermal.tz0._ACx: 110.1C -1 -1 -1 -1 -1 -1 -1 -1 -1 hw.acpi.thermal.tz0._CRT: 95.1C hw.acpi.thermal.tz0._HOT: 90.1C hw.acpi.thermal.tz0._CR3: -1 hw.acpi.thermal.tz0._PSV: 85.1C hw.acpi.thermal.tz0.thermal_flags: 0 hw.acpi.thermal.tz0.passive_cooling: 1 hw.acpi.thermal.tz0.active: -1 hw.acpi.thermal.tz0.temperature: 26.9C

What's the ambient temperature there?
That's not worryingly hot but it probably could be cooler with better air flow.

@fzotti
As a comparison point, my 4200 is currently showing 59.1C for "Zone 0" and 50 to 53C for each CPU (the CPU numbers bounce around a bit). This unit sits in a small closet along with a couple of other pieces of network gear, and there's no airflow beyond leakage around the closet door. I haven't tried to measure ambient temp in the closet but it's noticeably a few degrees above the adjacent hallway. I'm sure I could get it down a couple degrees by making some holes, but the WAF (wife acceptance factor) for that would be pretty low and it doesn't really seem like this is warm enough to worry about. -
I actually added a fan inside my 2100 inside it. There is also some Amazon networking gear usb based fans and or cooling pads that might help in your environment.

This unit is in a rack cabinet with others devices and rack switches .
The range warning-critical is set with default value : zone , core and PCH all 60-70 °C .
