      I have used Syslog before for the router to communicate with the main terminal and I have recently discovered Growl. Can anyone explain to me the differences of what pfSense would communicate through Syslog vs. Growl.

      Additionally, how would I be able to test if Growl is receiving information from pfSense, is there a command line I could send through pfSense to Growl so I know if it is working or not?

        Growl, and the other notification types like smtp, only notify for major errors or events.

        If you want to test it, go to Diagnostics > Command and enter:

        file_notice("test", "Test notification");
