      I have an pfsense firewall 2.0 and it was working fine for 6 months but now i get an error that said : "out of inodes" and the pfsense is not giving ip address to the computers and also i cant acceso the web configuration page of the pfsense.

      How to fix this problem ? What means "out of inodes" ?

        @msantamaria:

        What means "out of inodes" ?

        Generally it means something like "the file system can't find a free inode to write a new file". Inodes are used to hold attributes including name, protection (mode), access time, locations of file fragments etc. Common causes of this message appearing include "too many existing files" (delete some files to free up inodes) or i/o error while searching for a free inode. The pfSense shell command # df -i will display number of inodes in use and number free.

            First off, what exact version number of pfSense are you running (it can't be pfSense 2.0 final since it hasn't been released yet) and what packages do you have installed?

            There isn't a single answer as to what you can delete - it depends on what packages you have installed and what you're doing with pfSense.

              And you haven't established that the problem really is "too many files". (As suggested earlier, the problem might be an i/o error reading from the hard drive.) In addition to the information requested in the previous reply, please provide the output of the pfSense shell command # df -i.

                  If you have installed no packages, then most likely you are seeing signs that your hard drive is failing.

                        Sorry to say, but your hard drive is definitely failing.

                              I agree with jimp - those errors, in particular the CRC ones, are a strong indicator that your hard disk has already failed. It is simply a matter of time before it fails completely - you need to replace it immediately.
