I've launched the automatic upgrade from version 2.0 to version 2.0.1 but I'm stuck with the screen
'An upgrade is currently in progress.' since two days!
I cannot even log in with SSH

I would not like to force the shutdown with the power down button. Any suggestion?
      Thank you very much

I had a couple of experiences of automatic updates stalling and not seeming to recover over network hiccups so I've taken to downloading update files to a local system and then uploading them to pfSense through the web GUI.

It would be worthwhile you seeing what has been recently reported on the console and reporting the response you get to a few control-T characters typed on the console.

I will take care of your advice for the future.
At the moment looks impossible even to access the physical consolle. I can only see many error messages dating to this midnight stating
snort[16660] DynamicPlugin: Rule[3:13803] not enabled in configuration, the rule will not be used
So I don't have any response to the pressure of control-T characters
I hope this can help others for the future to solve the problem.
Is there anything I can do before or immediately after a cold reboot that I'm planning to do anyway tomorrow, so that I can provide more information about the problem?
Happily I did a complete configuration backup before starting the update.

If your console keyboard has Num Lock or Shift indicator lights you could press the corresponding key and see if the light changes state. If there is no change then the system is so knotted it is ignoring the keyboard and there is nothing further you can do beyond a power reset.
