Server load balancing port - SLBD/HOSTSTATED

  • We're looking to replace our combination of Cisco PIX and LocalDirectors with PfSense. I have two questions:

    1. Has anyone done this using PfSense (1.2beta2) and SLBD? We need to load balance servers for port 80/tcp, 443/tcp and 25/tcp. Any comments on stability, bugs, limitations are appreciated.

    2. Since OpenBSD 4.1 appears to now include HOSTSTATED (http://bsd.phoenix.az.us/node/60) instead/in addition to SLBD, will PfSense also be looking to replace or add HOSTSTATED?

    Yep. Works great.

Yep.  Patches accepted to help us speed up the process.

  • My fault, always helps to do a bit more reading before posting…looks like HOSTSTATED is by same author(s) and replaces SLBD - http://spootnik.org/hoststated/. Hoststated will be included in future versions of OpenBSD from 4.1 onwards and includes improvements in support of https.

Does PfSense 1.2beta3 include SLBD or Hoststated?
