WAN is Gateway?

  • So trying to figure out what all this means.

My Service Provider has cat 5 going to their router.  I want to plug this into the WAN port and bypass their router.  If it a works I should be able to get a dhcp address for my WAN Nic.  This would then mean my WAN is my Gateway?

  • no not in how pfsense uses that gateway would be on isp side of your connection and a different ip than your wan ip

  • So if I connect directly to my service provider, my gateway would be in the dhcp request and I'd set the WAN gateway to none?

  • If you're assigning an IP via DHCP then you don't need to specify anything.
