Netgear R6300

  • Hi !

I want to know if I can install pfsense on my Netgear R6300 router ? I did a search on the forum and did not found anything.

    Thanks !

  • Hi xawakenx

no you can't, pfSense only runs on x86 hardware.

  • ok thanks ! I there a x86 hardware with wifi AC ?

  • There are many (too many to choose from) mini-ITX boards with mini-pci. You will need to find a AC Wifi card that has a driver for freeBSD 10 for it to work.

As told before you can´t install pfSense on such hardware.

At this time ac WiFi is not supported by pfSense partially or full!

But what you are able to do is the following, buy hardware and install pfSense on it.
If possible install DD-WRT or OpenWRT on your R6300 router and set it up in WLAN
AP mode, so you will be are able to use pfSense and ac WiFi in your network without
    any problems.

Ditto. This is smarter setup than using pfSense as an AC wireless router.
