    This seems to have worked, although I have to admit I'm not quite sure why. All six interfaces are still sharing IRQs seven and five, just like they were prior to disabling all the unnecessary devices.

    At any rate, thanks for the suggestion.  :)

    I regret to hear of your death and hope you've got decent Internet access in the afterlife  ;D

    I suggest you install supported network cards, such as Intel.

    Hi people is me again.

    After trying again with my 2WIRE bridge-mode i found the right setting, reading different page from dslreports, everything was right, i just change 1 setting:

    After i disable the "Routing" stuff from 2WIRE, i change the "Connection Type" from "Direct IP" to PPPoE, setup my user && password.

    After this, DHCP was disable from 2WIRE, i setup my PfsenseWAN to PPPoE… my pfsense box was online!!!

    Right now i'm working behind my pfsense, my VPN are working, i can forget about DMZ and all the tricks i have to do to get my box work behind 2WIRE.

    The ISP technical people, they know about this but don't have any idea how to get this thing to work, they just told me "Sir, if u do that you loose your warranty, bla bla bla  ::) ::) ::)

    I test the connection, resetting my box, enabling && disabling the WAN NIC and everything is working.

    Well guys thanks all for your help and advised, lets continue with the show  ;D ;D ;D

    Dual Xeon or Core Duo 2 with PCI-E slot
    PCI-E Dual or Quad port Intel gigabit server adapter (very important!)

    Yes it will be more pricey but this is how to do it right.

    Ok, lets just hope it works. I have some old PATA/IDE-harddrives laying around, so harddrive is no problem to replace. But to buy 2 brand new network cards when i have to good Intel Gbit-NICs on the motherboard would feel wrong :-)

    If anyone has got the combo of southbridge / network cards working, please write a reply.

    Thanks for the answer.

    I've had one of these for over a year on my production network with a full install on a microdrive. Never had a problem with it.

    There may be something to the box getting too hot with a SFF IDE HD inside. I have a similar sized passively cooled box that doesn't work reliably with an internal HD and the case closed - it overheats. Haven't tried a HD in my FX5620.

    Any idea what kind of HP server would be the least expensive, but would have a compatible RAID controller?

    If you want the cafe for gaming i suppose you mean also FPS which are better played with low pings. You might consider to use policy based routing and use one of your lines for gaming only. and the other for the rest.
    If ping is not a concern for you just loadbalance.
    But you might want to use advanced outbound NAT and use static ports since lot's of games dont like portscrambling.

    If you want content filtering you might want to take a look at the packages that are availlable.
    But i think you will need lot's of RAM :) i think with your 2x10 Mbit lines CPU speed wont be a matter.

    Haven't heard anything else.  But for what it's worth, I'm not seeing this in FreeBSD 6.2 w/ a couple of the pfSense patches added to our kernel.

    did you try ifconfig -m to find out what options are valid?
    if you dont put them exactly as this command returns it wont work.

    You absolutely true. 128mb for embedded version is more than enough. net4801 has slow cpu with very small amount of cache - thats the problem. If i compare my two systems - one with PII CPU/300mhz/512kb/128mb and net4801/266mhz/16kb/128mb - with first one i can get ~80-90mbps troughput, with second - just only ~20mbps, with 100% cpu utilization.

    @yacine:

    Hi,

    I tryed to install pfSense-1.0.1-Embedded.img.gz on Nexcom 1041c and 1045 CF and both failed with error :
    ad2: FAILURE - READ status=51 <ready,dsc,error>error=10 <nid_not_found>LBA=254975</nid_not_found></ready,dsc,error>

    This is not pfSense-Problem, but a FreeBSD-Problem … but I had a Server running with FreeBSD on a Compact-Flash with this message for over a year.

    @yacine:

    This message appear each time the system need to read/write to CF !
    But weird pfsense boot and seem to be usable  ???

    It should be usable, yes.

    @yacine:

    On both CF is seen as IDE secondary master (ad2) and I suspect it must be on ad0 (IDE primary master) to make pfsense happy ???

    I think pfSense uses ufs-label and mounts /dev/ufs/pfSense in /etc/fstab it doesn't matter if its ad0 or adN.
    Very seldom you have to adjust /boot/loader.conf or use boot0cfg to switch to a different drive …

    Thanks for the reply, the pfSense box is in place now ;)

    I havent tested it really but it does seem fast, am also getting a solid 5ms latency when playing CSS too! Cant complain at that :)
