Under the Advanced tab try turning off the tcp/ip offload.

Thanks for the sanity-check, Chris.  I just installed this box this morning into production, but I'll order some parts and build another and test stock FreeBSD on it.

Assuming FreeBSD has similar problems and I'm in for a bit of driver debugging to get this working ideally, if anybody has debugged this problem in any other drivers, I'm all ears.  I'm guessing FreeBSD has a printk… ;)

If you are installing onto a CF card the embedded is the right version for you since it never writes to the CF card except when you change the config.
The embedded version does not need more then 128 MB, and there is no sense in using more (what for?).

If you want to use packets (like snort or squid) you need the full version and then the CF is not the right medium to save your data.
You could use a microsdrive (harddisk in CF format).
Search the forum on which models to use (there seems to be some microdrive models which have problems).

I tried a cross over cable as well, and the win 2K box still doesn't pick it up.

I tried a cross over between my router and NAS, and they can no longer ping each other.

I try to get working RouterBoard 44G (Realtek 8169SC) with pfSense 1.2 RC2, but im not successful.

The plan was to revert to the original version as the fix was causing more problems than it was meant to fix.

ZOMG what an idiot!  Been doing this kinda stuff for years now and it's the little things you mess up on ;p

A crossover resovled the connectivity issue but now I cannot browse out via Mozilla from that box..hmm.  Must be a rules issue now.  I can ping the DMZ interface so at least those two are talking.  W00T.

in testing I got about 60mbytes/sec through a £250 desktop plus a PCIe intel server gigabit NIC if that is any use to you.

you'll pay a lot more for a low power quiet semi-embedded system than a standard desktop…..

Exposed services should always be on a separate network from other hosts.  It should look something like:

Internet –-- pfSense A
                |
      Exposed Services (DMZ)
                |
              pfSense B
                |
    Desktops, printers etc

Ideally the DMZ should only contain the services that should be exposed.  Nothing else should be in the DMZ, particularly file sharing.

When I reinstalled I got both cpu's, when I update to the lastest snapshot that is when it went back to one CPU.  I really don't want to change builds, now.  It is working so well.  but I really would like to get both cores backup and up and running.  It really would make a difference.  right now it is running great.  No issues with anything.  I wish there was a way just to change from one core to multi-core with out a reinstall.

When I have updated in the past I have not gotten the option to change core during the update process.  I think one time when it was running two cores I did see a button about single processor or multi-processor options.  It ihas not been present resently on the snapshots.  I have decided to stick with the Oct. 18 snapshot.  It seems to be the most stable and all the features that I use are working except the muti-core option.

Hifn cards seem to work well, there are a number to choose from.

The VIA Padlock on the c7 chips works with openvpn on pfSense. My brother uses it at his work. Not sure about pci encryption cards though…

Just for info we are a UK supplier of WRAP boards and will have the Alix in stock by then end of Oct.
