No they didn't. I bought the unit from a partner yours. I'm from Europe, and i bought from Voleatech company.

I'll try to check the command result before send it to them just in case....

      Best regards!

Hi again, here's the result of ifconfig -vvvma (factory defaults):

Ah, we'd need to see it with ports connected to note any differences there really.

            @stephenw10 Hi,

Port igc0 was connected to my laptop. port igc i can't cause connecting to my laptop does nothing, and connecting to existing switch on my lan i lights up for a couple seconds and then goes off, and back on again, and back off.........over and over. i managed (after many trials) to quickly ping the interface while he gets connected, and then shuts off again. and repeats this all over again.so i probably can't get the result in time to show you, since is turning itself on/off constantly.

However i already packed the unit ready for RMA, so i can't open it again. its a lot of packing :)

Thanks for the support. I'll update this once a get the unit back from RMA.

            Best Regards!

              Hi Again,

Just a brief update related to this problem.

After being sent to RMA, unit was tested and everything was OK, accordingly to them. I received the unit meanwhile, but only today i was able to test it. So as soon as i connected the laptop directly to LAN2 interface, the same happened, no connectivity. They said to connect a switch between, so i did, and for my surprise, it works!

So, is this any kind of flaw design or what? Because in all other LAN1/LAN3/LAN4 connected directly to the laptop, it works just fine, one LAN2 port doesn't. Very weird stuff.

              Just to let you know.

              Best Regards!

I’m not sure the SG-6100 igc ports does Auto MDIX (eliminate the need for a cross-over cable in direct attach).

Have you tried with a cross-over RJ-45 cable? That is required because both ends are host ports - unless one of them does Auto MDIX.

Love the no fuss of using the official appliances :-)

@keyser Hi no, i'm using normal cat 5e Patch cord. It has something to do with the unit itself, because if i connect the same cable directly to any of the other LAN ports (igc0/2/3) it work perfectly fine. It's just the LAN2 (igc1) port that has this problem. It doesn't even light up the leds on the port. However putting a switch between my pc and connected on the LAN2 of the netgate 6100 it works just fine....

I don't know the diagram or how its connected internally, but maybe it has something to do with how is connected internally. I don't really know....

I don't plan to use this ports however since i'm going to use the 10gb interfaces for my network. Either way, is awkward.

                    Best Regards!

Yeah, they should do auto-MDIX. It's required for Gigabit.

But more to the point all 4 igb ports are identical. I have no explanation for this behaviour.

I have this exact same problem with a 4100 also.

@brians Well, after all i'm glad that i'm not the only one with this weird problems :) Sorry to hear that. Did you tried to connect the port to a switch? if its like my case, it should work just fine. Nevertheless its weird....

                          Best regards!

@brians Are you actually seeing the identically same behaviour or just a non-working port?

Any 4100 will still be in warranty so if you do have a bad port you should open a ticket with us:

@stephenw10 I am seeing the behaviour that my laptop directly plugging into port 2 does not activate the LAN2 port, but using a switch in-between does.

This is not an issue for me and I only noticed while I was doing in-shop testing re-assigning the LAN ports around on a 4100 prior to doing on a production on-site 6100 (eg. moving to 10Gbps LAN - which worked btw!)

I will experiment a bit more and change some settings on the port, and try a different laptop.

Hmm, curious. And also only on LAN2?

@stephenw10 Yes only on LAN2... I tried another laptop and did not recognize. I adjusted settings in pfsense on LAN2 to force 1Gbps still nothing. The other laptop was also an HP so maybe another brand with another NIC may work.

Considering the OP already did an RMA with 6100 and same issue, this may be some more widespread issue.

I think the same unit was returned as we were unable to duplicate the issue.
Really odd. I can't think why it would only effect one port...

@brians Not HP related, i mean, mine was with a Lenovo T430 and T480, and both with same behaviour. Only works connected to a Switch. Other ports are just fine. My unit was sent to RMA, but was returned "with no problem" because they connected to a switch and was fine. However connected to a computer does not work ( they did not tested this method, but instead plugged directly to a switch ). So for them the unit is fine for all intents and purposes.

                                      Best Regards!

@visionsoul Another data point. New 6100. Connected my MacBook Pro directly to the 6100 using an Anker USB type ethernet adapter. It worked fine on all ports including LAN2.

                                          @cdturri Hi,

Nice to ear. I may try that too, because i only tried connected directly to ethernet port. I'll try via HUB asap.

                                          Thanks for your feedback!

                                            Hi there,

I got the same problem now.

It is a new 6100. But in my case, it's LAN1 (igc0) which is not working.

Connection a Laptop directly to LAN1 does not work. There is no Link at all (no flashing lights at PFSense and no Link-Status at the Laptop).
Connection a Laptop to LAN2 (igc1) does indeed work. After configuring an IP-Address on Port 2 (igc1), I'm also able to open the Webinterface.

My first guess was, LAN1 is broken. I testet this with multiple Laptops. But after connecting LAN1 to my Switch, it immediately gets a LINK.

You can see this if I do a "ifconfig -vvvma"
