      this says reinstall Chrome:

Not sure why you think it's pfSense related? You mention "though pfSense" but are other attempts coming from the same public IP address?

Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.

More likely because pfSense it sending that traffic over a VPN.

A proxy on pfSense would not change the source IP.

Snort is an IDS/IPS not a proxy. Squid is an http proxy. But it's not either of those things.

So.... unrelated to the previous issue with Google search?

You should open a new thread.

So you want to log any down time on each gateway?

You can check the gateway logs for alarm entries it will show when a gateway is marked down and when it is back up.

If this, what you are reporting here, was pointed to a power
outage, you might be perhaps als looking for a qualified
UPS unit (Uninterruptible power supply) also. It should
then be able to hold both pfSense firewalls if you run a
active/passive setup. Try tog et the same box again
might be also nice for narrow down troubleshooting.
